Final Design and right-of-way for Section MGP nears completion. Right-of-way acquisition for Section MGL is well underway.
2009-2010 Final design continues and right-of-way acquisition begins. A noise study is completed for the project. The Montgomery County Transportation Authority (MCTA) is created for the purpose of buying right-of-way (needed land).
2008 The next phase, final design, begins. Final design includes creating detailed engineering plans, coordinating with utility companies, and acquiring needed right-of-way.
2007 All preliminary engineering is completed.
The project gets ready to move into the next phase, which is final design. Gannett Fleming, Inc. is selected to design the portion of Lafayette Street between Barbadoes and Ford Streets. McCormick Taylor, Inc. is selected to design the extension east of Ford St., the turnpike interchange, and associated local road improvements.
2006 Preliminary engineering continues. The project receives environmental clearance by the Federal Highway Administration in July.
