Open Space Planning

The open space planning section works to preserve our open space and natural resources.  Much of this effort is done through the Green Fields/Green Towns Program.  Our open space planning staff works with the Montgomery County Open Space Board to fund various open space preservation efforts, utilizing a $150 million fund approved by voters in 2003.  Planners work with municipalities and nonprofit conservation organizations to preserve properties and develop park facilities.  A major effort has been development and management of the county trail system.  This section also assists the Montgomery County Commissioners and board of assessment department in making determinations about the eligibility of properties for preferential assessment under Act 515.  Click here for major open space planning projects.
