The Counties of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia have partnered together to host approximately 25 collection events for Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and Electronics in 2010.  This collaboration allows residents of each County the opportunity to attend any of the events hosted in the region.  It also allows the 5 County region to acquire the best possible price per pound, which in turn, saves valuable taxpayer dollars.  In 2009, this regional partnership collected approximately 2.5 million pounds of HHW and Electronics of which,  Montgomery County accounted for approximately 800,000 of that total alone.
In 2008, this program has received the Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence through the Pennsylvania Environmental Council and Professional Recycler of Pennsylvania 'Waste Watcher' award for Outstanding Achievement in Special Collection.  We hope that this award winning program will be able to continue to serve the needs of Montgomery County and the 4 Southeastern Pennsylvania County Region through the proper disposal and recycling of Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics.

Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Collection events are typically held at 5-6 different locations throughout the County on specified days between the months of April and October.  A typical event begins at 9AM and ends at 3PM.  On event days, directional signs and volunteers will help the public navigate to the correct entrance of the event and into line.  On a typical event, the wait time should be no longer than 30 minutes.
As you approach the staging area, Montgomery County employees and community service workers may ask you a few survey questions regarding the days event.  You are not required to take the survey however, these surveys help the County determine how to better advertise, where to hold future events and allow the opportunity for feedback.  Once you are finished with the survey takers, you will be directed towards the staging area.  At this time, HHW employees will instruct you to stay in your car and unlock any doors so that access to HHW and electronics is as easy as possible.  HHW employees will then proceed to remove items from your car as carefully and quickly as possible.  Once all items are removed you will be guided towards the exit.
