Description of MCCWF Standing Committees
Domestic Violence Awareness Dinner Committee: This Committee plans and hosts an annual dinner held in October that began in 1996. Members assist co-chairs in scheduling the date (traditionally the fourth Thursday in October), selecting a location, seeking a Mistress/Master of Ceremonies and Keynote Speaker and soliciting nominations for the Law Enforcement Award and Victim’s Advocate Award. Members review the nominations and recommend to the full Commission the award recipients. Additional responsibilities include preparing the invitations for mailing at the September meeting, preparing the programs, and coordinating other event-related plans such as name tags, obtaining award plaques and proclamations and compiling a data base list of attendees. The Commission’s secretary provides assistance to this Committee by having the envelope labels affixed by residents at the Assisted Living facility and mailing of the invitations and receipt of response cards. The secretary retains the mailing list in her office and updates it as directed.
Unsung Hero Award: Originally titled “Unsung Heroine”, this Committee solicits nominations for recognizing someone who has performed extraordinarily in his or her field. The Award is presented at a Montgomery County Commissioners Meeting in April. The Committee is comprised of a chair and two or three members who assist with preparing nomination forms, drafting a letter of solicitation, and preparing the mailing. Members then review all nominations and recommend to the full Commission the award recipient. The Commission’s secretary provides to the Committee a form letter, nomination forms and mailing list that she retains in her office.
Youth Volunteer Award: This Committee was formed to recognize the achievement of a teenager between the ages of 13 to 18 for their commitment as a volunteer and in devoting their time to those less fortunate within the Montgomery County area. The Award is presented at a Montgomery County Commissioners Meeting in April It is comprised of a chair and two or three members who assist with preparing nomination forms, drafting a letter of solicitation, and preparing the mailing. Members then review all nominations and recommend to the full Commission the award recipient. The Commission’s secretary provides to the Committee a form letter, nomination forms and mailing list that she retains in her file.
Educator of the Year Award: This Committee determines the criteria for recognizing a teacher in Montgomery County. The Award is presented at a Montgomery County Commissioners Meeting in November. It is comprised of a chair and two or three members who assist with preparing nomination forms, drafting a letter of solicitation, and preparing the mailing. Members then review all nominations and recommend to the full Commission the award recipient. The Commission’s secretary provides to the Committee a form letter, nomination forms and mailing list that she retains in her file.
In addition to the Standing Committees, MCCWF has two Special Appointments to Community based Committees/Organizations: the Montgomery County Bar Association Community Outreach Committee and the Teen Pregnancy Task Force. Each special appointment has one or two members who attend meetings and report back to MCCWF.
