MONTGOMERY COUNTY RECEIVES FEDERAL DISASTER DESIGNATION
NORRISTOWN — Montgomery County has been included in the Federal Disaster Designation as a result of flooding on June 27 from torrential downpours.
The flooding affected about 500 homes and businesses in Montgomery County and caused over $20 million in damage.
Homeowners, renters and business owners who received damage from flooding and are uninsured or underinsured can now participate in the Individual Assistance program and are urged to call FEMA at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or apply online at www.fema.gov/assistance/index.shtm.
The Individual Assistance program provides grants for temporary housing, home repair, home replacement and permanent housing construction. Other damages are also eligible under FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program.
“We were actually very fortunate here in Montgomery County,” Commissioners’ Chairman Thomas Jay Ellis said.
“While the property damage was extensive, as anyone who had three feet of water in their home can tell you, there were no serious injuries and no loss of life,” he said.
In addition, staff from PEMA, FEMA and the County are working to set up Disaster Recovery Centers in various locations throughout the affected areas. Disaster Recovery Centers are one-stop shops for disaster related questions, getting help filling out forms and gathering more information about what assistance is available.
While visiting a Disaster Recovery Center is not necessary, it is imperative that residents applying for disaster assistance call FEMA’s toll-free number or register online.
