OAKS — Construction to upgrade the sanitary sewer system in the Perkiomen Creek Valley will affect use of portions of the Perkiomen Trail and Lower Perkiomen Valley Park for the balance of this year.

The work, being done by the Lower Perkiomen Valley Regional Sewer Authority, will involve the clearing of trees, heavy earth excavation to accommodate the new pipeline, an unsightly chain-link fence surrounding the construction and a lot of noise.

Construction will begin to the south and then move into the park and trail area by mid-March or early April.

The trail will not be closed at any time during construction. The contractor has committed to building detours for the trail in the areas where the work will be done.

The work will conclude just north of Upper Indianhead Road by the end of 2006. Once the work is complete, the County intends to restore the disrupted areas with plantings of native, hardy species of trees and shrubs.
