MONTGOMERY COUNTY SEEKING OUT  FAMILIES OF SEPTEMBER 11TH VICTIMS

NORRISTOWN — The Montgomery County Commissioners are seeking the names of any Montgomery County resident who was a victim of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack on our nation.
The Commissioners would like to make sure that any victim from Montgomery County is included in the program when the September 11th Memorial Sculpture is dedicated at the Montgomery County Court House this year.
The dedication is set for Thursday, September 8th at 11 a.m. next to the Swede Street entrance to the Court House.
The Commissioners are seeking the names of any victim who lived in Montgomery County at the time of their death; any victim who lived in the County during their formative years; or any victim who had an immediate family member (mother, father, sister or brother) living in the County when they died.
County officials have already identified five residents who died in the September 11, 2001 attack: Johanna Sigmund of Wyndmoor, Bob McIlvaine of Oreland, Noell Maerz of Lansdale, Timothy Betterly of Ambler and Christopher "Buddha" Clarke of Villanova.
Montgomery County Sheriff John Durante, a forensic fingerprint expert who volunteered to help identify victims of the tragedy, secured the donation of the twisted steel I-beam from the World Trade Center for use in the County’s Memorial service a year after the tragedy.
The steel was stored at the County fire academy while the Commissioners sponsored a contest to use it in a permanent memorial to Montgomery County natives who lost their lives in the Twin Towers and all victims of the attacks as well as emergency personnel who responded.

The steel is currently at a foundry in New York state being assembled into the memorial.
