ROYERSFORD — The Montgomery County Commissioners are pleased to announce the official dedication of Parkhouse, Providence Pointe, formerly known as the Montgomery County Geriatric and Rehabilitation Center, will occur at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 20.
The name was chosen in honor of Russell Parkhouse, County Commissioner from 1960 to 1983. Mr. Parkhouse is remembered fondly for his support of the residents and staff of the facility.
The program will include remarks by a number of speakers, including:
Commissioners Chairman James R. Matthews, Commissioner Thomas Jay Ellis, Commissioner Ruth S. Damsker, Jeff Parkhouse, son of Russell Parkhouse, and the Honorable Joseph A. Smyth, Judge of the Court of Common Please, who was a personal associate of Russell Parkhouse and long-time friend of the Parkhouse family.
The County-owned buildings at 1600 Black Rock Rd. in Royersford have served the community for almost 200 years. What is today a skilled nursing facility actually opened on June 7, 1808 as the County Almshouse.
In addition to renaming Parkhouse, Providence Pointe, the Commissioners will announce the opening of two new services being provided on the Parkhouse campus: Riverview Adult Day Health Services and Montgomery Meadows Independent Living Suites. Tours will be provided after the ceremony concludes.
