DEADLINE TO REGISTER FOR TAX RELIEF APPROACHING FAST
DEADLINE IS MARCH 1, 2005

NORRISTOWN — The deadline for applying for the Homeowner Tax Relief Act is March 1, 2005. The county urges all property owners to complete their application, sign it and send it in. Anyone who does not could end up missing out on hundreds of dollars of property tax relief.
Anyone who did not receive an application in the mail can obtain one from the county website, www.montcopa.org. Click on the "forms" button on the left-hand side and then click on Board of Assessments - Homeowners Tax Relief ACT 72.
Property tax relief under this program will be funded by a combination of state revenue from slot machines and local income taxes. School Districts that wish to participate must levy an earned income tax to reduce school real estate taxes by a fixed amount. Real estate tax reductions may not take effect for several years until there are sufficient funds available from the state.
In order to qualify, you must own and occupy the property as your primary residence. You must also submit a completed and signed application. If you do not apply, and your school district adopts a homestead exclusion, you will be required to pay an earned income tax but you will not receive any property tax relief.
