COUNTY EMPLOYEES AND RESIDENTS URGED TO CONTRIBUTE TO TSUNAMI RELIEF THROUGH THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY FOUNDATION
NORRISTOWN — The Montgomery County Commissioners are urging the 3,100 county employees and any county resident who wishes to do so to contribute to the tsunami relief effort in Asia through the Montgomery County Foundation, Inc.
Many residents and employees of Montgomery County have already made donations to the relief effort, but the Commissioners feel it is important to make this appeal at their first public meeting since the disaster occurred.
"We just want to share our compassion in the face of this enormous tragedy," Commissioner Chairman James R. Matthews said.
Checks should be made out to The Montgomery County Foundation and include a note on the memo line indicating that the donation should be used for tsunami relief.
The Montgomery County Foundation is a non-governmental, non-profit community organization whose purpose is to help donors achieve their philanthropic ideals.
It has agreed to collect the donations and disburse them to domestic agencies doing tsunami relief who are on a federally approved list.
There is a tax incentive to making donations in such a manner. Any donation made to approved domestic agencies specifically for tsunami relief by January 31 can be deducted from 2004 taxable income.
Donations can be mailed to either:
