CRANK CALLER IMPERSONATING
COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT OFFICIAL

NORRISTOWN — The Montgomery County Health Department received complaints from three county residents that someone posing as a health department representative had called Wednesday and asked personal questions.
Local police where the three residents live are coordinating with Montgomery County Detective Bureau to investigate the complaints.
In all three cases, a male caller identified himself as a doctor with the health department conducting a survey on water quality in Montgomery County and asked to speak to the woman of the house.
The caller claimed additives in drinking water could cause a "bug" lying dormant in a woman’s intestines to become active and cause health problems. He then proceeded to ask a number of personal health questions.
He also threatened the women with fines if they did not cooperate. He specifically became agitated when one woman suggested her husband listen to the conversation and threatened a $400 fine if the husband did not cooperate.
The three residents live in Lower Gwynedd, Ambler and Upper Dublin.
Two residents of Ambler also received calls on Wednesday and Thursday by someone posing as a utility worker who was trying to gain access to their homes, Ambler Police Chief Rocco Wack said.
Anyone who has any information about these calls is asked to call their local police department.
