OPENING SET FOR TRAIL CONNECTING NORRISTOWN FARM PARK TO SCHUYLKILL RIVER TRAIL
NORRISTOWN — The Montgomery County Commissioners are pleased to announce the official opening of the Norristown Farm Park Connector at 1 p.m. Thursday on Haws Avenue near the intersection with Marshall Street in Norristown.
This two-mile segment is the latest portion of the County’s four-year plan to open 30 additional miles of recreational trails by the end of 2007.
The Commissioners opened the first one-mile segment of the Chester Valley Trail this past summer.
The connector consists of way-finding signs that direct pedestrians and bicyclists from the Schuylkill River Trail at River Front Park to the Norristown Farm Park and seven miles of bicycle trails that already exist there.
The on-road route, which will include improved pedestrian crossings at all intersections, will take travelers past the Marshall Street business district where they can shop or get refreshments.
Directions from the Court House: Take Main Street (Ridge Pike) west to Haws Lane, turn right and go two blocks to Marshall Street. The ceremony will take place in front of the Calvary Baptist Church.
