PUBLIC FORUMS SET FOR "OPEN SPACE PLAN"

NORRISTOWN, PA — The Montgomery County Planning Commission is pleased to invite you to take part in one of three public forums for the county’s draft "Open Space, Natural Features, and Cultural Resources Plan"—part of the county’s new 2025 comprehensive plan. The meetings involve a presentation with a discussion period afterwards. Attendees can browse through informative displays on topics such as trails and greenways, parks, historical resources and farmland preservation. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask in-depth questions and give feedback on the plan.
The "Open Space, Natural Features, and Cultural Resources Plan" guides the county’s open space planning and historic preservation decisions to the year 2025 part of the next step in the comprehensive plan processand . It expands upon the ideas and goals outlined in the "Vision Plan," the overall guide to the new county comprehensive plan. and is the first detailed plan to be presented to the public. It is. The "Open Space, Natural Features, and Cultural Resources pPlan" outlines specific priority areas for future preservation efforts as well as government policies to manage parks, trails, greenways, historic sites and open space or farmland purchases. This plan complements the county’s open space initiative. Since people across both the county and region enjoy and partake of these open spaces, it will be important for local government officials, state agencies, residents and the various organizations that work on open space issues to cooperate in this plan’s implementation. The feedback received on local open space concerns will help guide the final draft of the plan.
The "Open Space, Natural Features, and Cultural Resources Plan" is one of many detailed plans that will be included in the new 2025 comprehensive plan. The 2025 plan replaces the county’s existing plan, which was adopted in 1979. The Montgomery County Planning Commission completed a major element of the plan in 2002 when it produced the "Vision Plan," following The "Vision Plan" was the result of public input from public meetings and a local survey. It is the guiding document for the comprehensive plan update and pulls together all the various interrelated plan elements..
