BRIDGE IN WHITEMARSH TOWNSHIP CLOSED INDEFINITELY DUE TO STRUCTURAL PROBLEMS
WHITEMARSH — The Montgomery County Roads and Bridges Department will close a county-owned bridge on West Valley Green Road after the morning rush hour on Friday, July 9.
Structural deficiencies were found during a bi-annual inspection by PennDOT consultant inspectors. The steel-truss bridge was originally built in 1884 and repaired in 1986.
Erdman Anthony of Mechanicsburg, Pa, recently performed the inspection for PennDOT and found a crack in the diagonal tension bar on the left side of the bridge.
Detours will be posted using Stenton Avenue and Joshua Road to Bethlehem Pike and West Valley Green Road.
Roads and Bridges is arranging to have a consulting engineer to review the inspection and determine whether the bridge can be repaired.
