Montco Commissioners Recognize Advocate on Aging

NORRISTOWN — The Montgomery County Commissioners and Pennsylvania Secretary of Aging Mike Hall joined the Pennsylvania Association of Area Agencies on Aging recently in recognizing Whitpain resident Alma Jacobs with the organizations annual Advocacy Award.

Jacobs has shown an unwavering commitment to supporting the aging community in both her professional and personal life for more than three decades.

She was appointed to serve as Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Aging in 1984 and oversaw the administration of federal and state aging programs throughout the Commonwealth, including introduction of the Pharmaceutical Assistance Contract for the Elderly Program (PACE).

Jacobs continued her public service when she was appointed Regional Director for the federal Department of Health and Human Services in 1989 by President George Bush.

And she has also served in numerous volunteer positions, including as Chair of the Pennsylvania Commission for Women, the Mayor’s Commission for Women in Philadelphia and our own Montgomery County Aging and Adult Services Advisory Council.
