NORRISTOWN — The Montgomery County Commission on Women and Families (MCCWF) is delighted to announce that Lindsay Greger, 14, of Willow Grove is the recipient of the 2009 Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award.

The Montgomery County Commissioners presented Lindsay with the award at their public meeting on Thursday, April 16th.

Lindsay, who attends Center School in Abington, is very involved in school and volunteers at Briar Bush Nature Center on weekends. In school she is very involved in art, loves music and science and is proficient in technology.

Coming from a family that encourages and values service, she helps with children’s parties at Briar Bush, feeds the animals and cleans up. Last summer Lindsay volunteered for five days in a re-vegetation project in the Grand Canyon.

“Although we received nominations for many wonderful students we are very happy to honor Lindsay who has contributed so much to her community,” said Mary Bartle, chairman of the Montgomery County Commission on Women and Families.

“I want to acknowledge Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award Co-Chairs Kathy Brandon and Nancy Mortimer O’Brien for making this very difficult and important selection,” Bartle said.

It is the mission of the Montgomery County Commission on Women and Families to foster leadership; provide awareness of existing services; promote development of resources and advocate equal access to such resources in order to enhance the lives of women and families.

Areas to be addressed include, but are not limited to: educations, employment, housing, health, legislation, discrimination, legal issues, elder care, child care, children and youth services, leadership, communication, transportation, domestic abuse, family relationships, sexual harassment, support enforcement and sexual assault.
