Montgomery County Commissioners Funding Green Lane Intersection Improvements

PENNSBURG — The Montgomery County Commissioners presented the Upper Perkiomen Valley Regional Planning Commission with a check for $135,000 Wednesday to install a traffic signal at the intersection of
Route 63 (Main Street) and Route 29 (Perkiomen Avenue) in Green Lane.

This is one of four Jump Start projects the County Commissioners will undertake this year. The purpose is to demonstrate traffic improvements projects that would include in a new $150 million program that will be brought to voters in a referendum in November.

After the much-publicized collapse of a bridge in Minneapolis two years ago, the state and federal governments have clearly indicated that all of their transportation dollars for the foreseeable future will be used to fix existing roads and bridges that are wearing out.

Green Lane Borough has committed $15,000 to the project, which also involves restriping for turn lanes, and other municipalities in the region have expressed interest in contributing to the project as well.

The project is set to begin this fall.
