Montgomery County Collects Discarded Tires From Residents
Norristown, PA - October, 12, 2007 - Piles of old tires can not only look unsightly, but also create a breeding ground for disease-carrying mosquitoes.
To mitigate these problems, the Montgomery County Commissioners have authorized the Waste System Authority to hold two free tire collections so that residents can get rid of these hard-to-dispose-of items.
On Saturday October 20th from 9:00AM-3:00PM at the Pottstown Municipal Parking Lot on South Hanover Street (between High Street and College Drive) Montgomery County will hold a tire collection for County residents only. A maximum of 4 tires per vehicle will be allowed, and no tires from commercial activities will be accepted.
On Saturday November 3rd from 9:00AM-3:00PM at the Upper Dublin Municipal Building 801 Loch Alsh Avenue, Fort Washington, PA 19034; Montgomery County will hold a second tire collection for County residents only. A maximum of 4 tires per vehicle will be allowed, and no tires from commercial activities will be accepted.
“Disposing of tires properly is an expensive proposition and it’s crucial for the environment and for people’s quality of life,” Commissioners Chairman Thomas Jay Ellis said.
“One tire with standing water in it can make it impossible for all the neighbors to enjoy their back yards,” Ellis said. “Even if you’re willing to pay, its hard to find anyone who will take them.”
Please join the Montgomery County Waste Authority on October 20th in Pottstown Borough or November 3rd in Upper Dublin Township working to create a cleaner and safer place to work and live. Four tires maximum.
Montgomery County has successfully offered residents free household hazardous waste and used-electronics recycling collection for over thirteen years, partnering with Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Philadelphia Counties. This program has collected millions of pounds of harmful waste each year.
