Service Interruption to Montgomery County 911

EAGLEVILLE — Power was momentarily interrupted to a portion of the Montgomery County 911 Emergency Dispatch Call Center Tuesday morning.

Three calls to 911 were dropped during the incident, which occurred at about 9:30 a.m.

One of the calls was on a landline and when traced back police were already on the scene. The other two were cell phone calls and couldn’t be traced, but they occurred at the same time a heavy volume of cell phone calls were coming in to report a car fire on the Schuylkill Expressway.

The emergency electrical backup system for the call center kicked in within seconds and operations were fully restored.

As an additional precaution, the County activated its emergency backup 911 call center at the Public Safety Training Campus in Conshohocken. It was not needed to take any emergency calls.

The power interruption occurred while an electrical contractor was working to transfer the existing 911 center to a newly constructed 911 center. It is not clear exactly why the power interruption occurred, but officials are working to determine that.

The backup 911 call center in Conshohocken will remain staffed until officials are confident the problem has been resolved.
