WEST CONSHOHOCKEN — Public safety officials have ended a shelter in place recommendation for people in West Conshohocken that had resulted from an overturned tractor-trailer that spilled a hazardous material.
The Hazmat Unit commander on the scene reported that the chemical reaction and smoke and vapor plume from the sulfur dioxide in the vehicle had stopped.
The tractor-trailer containing the sulfur dioxide overturned on the northbound off-ramp from I-476 (Blue Route) to westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) at 7:52 a.m. this morning.
The northbound ramp from the Blue Route to the Schuylkill Expressway is closed and will remain so into the afternoon while the Hazmat Team and firefighters led by the George Clay Fire Department work to clean up the spill.
Further inquiries should be directed to the Public Safety Department at 610-631-6506 or 610-631-6543.
