WEST CONSHOHOCKEN — Public safety officials are recommending that people in West Conshohocken shelter in place while efforts continue to clean up a hazardous material spill from a tractor-trailer that overturned this morning.
A tractor-trailer containing sulfur dioxide overturned on the northbound off-ramp from I-476 (Blue Route) to westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) at 7:52 a.m. this morning.
The Hazmat Unit commander on the scene has determined the people in the West Conshohocken, particularly those north of the accident should remain in doors and keep their windows and doors closed.
The northbound ramp from the Blue Route to the Schuylkill Expressway is closed and will remain so into the afternoon.
The George Clay Fire Department and HAZMAT Teams are on location and working to contain the leak.
Montgomery County activated its Emergency Operations Center at 9:45 a.m. and Public Safety Department officials are working on the incident.
