LOWER PROVIDENCE — The Schuylkill River Trail will be closed for bridge construction beginning Monday, June 4 and users will be detoured onto the Audubon Loop to get around it.
The closure will last approximately 90 days while a cantilever is built onto the Oaks Bridge for trail users. Bikers and hikers are currently sharing the roadway with vehicle traffic across the existing bridge.
Users coming west from Betzwood on the Schuylkill Trail will be directed into the Pawlings Road parking lot where signs will point them to the Audubon Loop. Users coming south on the Perkiomen Trail will find signs in the Lower Perkiomen Park that direct them to the detour.
The bridge improvements are part of the County’s 4-Year Trail Development Plan.
