WISSAHICKON GREEN RIBBON TRAIL OPENING
WHITEMARSH — The Montgomery County Commissioners are pleased to announce the opening of two segments of the Wissahickon Green Ribbon Trail. that traverses County lands and Fort Washington State Park.
The public is invited to attend the dedication ceremony at 1 p.m. on Tuesday June 5, 2007 on the trail off of West Valley Green Road across the street from the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
These two sections add over two miles to the County’s network of recreational trails. Included is a section that runs from Germantown Pike to Stenton Avenue on land donated by the Morris Arboretum.
The other portion extends from Stenton Avenue to the Militia Hill section of the park and is accessible from Flourtown via the park’s Mill Road recreation area and a newly replaced bridge over the Wissahickon Creek.
It also crosses Valley Green Road and cuts through the County’s Wissahickon Valley Park before connecting to an existing portion of the Green Ribbon Trail.
Eventually, these two segments will be joined and form a connection between Fort Washington State Park and Forbidden Drive in Philadelphia.
Further connections will be made to future segments of the Cross-County Trail in the state park as well.
There are plans for a total of 165 miles of recreational trail that will crisscross the County and bring a regional trail to within five miles of every County resident.
