COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OBSERVE INSTALLATION OF NEW COUNTYWIDE WIRELESS NETWORK FOR ALL POLICE VEHICLES
PLYMOUTH TWP — The Montgomery County Commissioners dropped by the county’s Public Safety Training Campus to observe the installation of a new wireless network that is being deployed in police vehicles throughout the county.
The County paid $450,000 for 425 modems and will pay Verizon $250,000 per year for service.
Police officers will now be able to travel anywhere in the region and outside of it and stay in contact with Emergency Dispatch and their home departments.
Officers can use the network to receive dispatch calls, run license plates, operator information, download driver license photos or run criminal histories and driving records.
Officers will also be able to download pictures and floor plans for public buildings, access their departmental records and gain access to other record management systems.
Its GPS capabilities also give officers the ability to receive detailed directions and permits dispatchers to locate the officer’s vehicle in the event of a problem.
