Collaboration Leads To Innovation Solution
ITS is using its map making know how to help County District Court staff define new service boundaries. District Court boundaries are examined every 10 years to accommodate changes in population distribution. The process of defining the new boundaries, known as redistricting, is designed to insure each of the 30 district court locations serve about the same number of residents.
The team effort resulted in an application that eliminates a lot of the paperwork involved in the process and will save up to 1,000 hours of analysis and development time. The application, called a mash-up, combines population data from the 2010 census with existing district court boundaries to create a digital map.
The map allows district boundaries to be modified to eliminate population imbalances. The mash-up immediately analyses proposed boundary changes and displays the impact on population numbers.
