POSITION:        Environmental Health Specialist

DEPARTMENT:  Health

SALARY:           $37,062 – 40,768 depending on relevant experience

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Carry out environmental inspections/investigations; issue corrective orders; provide educational services; conduct other related field/office based work required to protect public health.  May perform a variety of environmental work of varying difficulty and complexity, with assignments based on technical proficiency and experience, including, but not limited to, the following:

·         Conduct inspections of eating and drinking establishments, bathing
  places, public/private schools, colleges, recreational
  camps/campgrounds, child care centers, nursing homes and other adult
  centers, grocery stores/supermarkets, and other facilities, as required.

·         Review permit applications and support material.

·         Prepare technical reports with recommendations.

·         Investigate and resolve insect and rodent complaints.

·         Conduct environmental portion of food- and water-borne illness
  investigations.

·         Conduct sampling of food, water and other materials, as required.

·         Investigate citizen's complaints regarding alleged environmental hazards
  and nuisances.

·         Conduct environmental investigations related to children and families
  with elevated blood levels.

·         Other related activities as required.

EDUCATION AND SKILLS:

Bachelor's degree in a related subject area; plus two (2) years of post-graduate, relevant experience  in the provision of environmental field services or other closely related work including specific training in technical areas related to the provision of mandated environmental field services.  Duties require travel throughout the county; must have a reliable means of transportation.
