As an internationally known collector of antiques and manuscripts, Samuel was well known for his love of books. Besides reading extensively, he authored books on local history, geneology and legal issues. The wallpaper in this room was reproduced based on originals found behind the bookcase. The top edge cut around the paper design was very up-to-date when it was originally installed in 1902.
