The Montgomery County Health Department’s (MCHD) Division of Water Quality Management is offering to county residents water testing of individual water supplies (wells) for microbiological contaminants at no cost. NO public water supplies, please.

MCHD recommends annual analyses for coliform bacteria, as the presence of coliform bacteria is an indicator of other potentially disease-causing organisms being present in the water supply.

Sampling kits (a sterile bottle, sampling instructions, corresponding paperwork and drop-off schedule) can be obtained from five (5) different locations throughout the county at anytime during the facility’s regular business hours. Click on location information for details.

After the county resident obtains a kit, the resident samples his/her individual water supply using the sterile bottle and delivers the sample to one of five drop-off locations with the paperwork correctly completed.  A report and any other pertinent information will be mailed to the county resident when the analyses are completed.

Also MCHD staff can provide a listing of laboratories for additional testing and assist residents with understanding their results and the PA Maximum contaminant levels.

Important note: no samples will be accepted on Thursdays or Fridays. If a County holiday occurs during the week, no water samples will be accepted the day prior to the holiday.
