Jane Bailey Arrested for Her Husband's 1984 Murder in Pottstown, PA

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman and Pottstown Borough Chief of Police Mark D. Flanders announced today the arrest of Jane BAILEY for the 1984 murder of her husband, Alan Bailey, in their Pottstown, PA home.  Although Bailey was killed more than twenty-five years, Detectives never stopped working to solve the case.

Detectives determined BAILEY conspired with Joey SMALL, with whom she was having an affair, to shoot her husband to death and then hide his remains to avoid prosecution.  Both BAILEY and SMALL are charged with first degree murder, and conspiracy to commit murder.

Alan Bailey’s remains were discovered in 1992 in Colebrookdale Township, Berks County.  An autopsy determined Bailey was killed years earlier by a gunshot wound to the head, either fired from a rifle or high energy pistol.

Detectives subsequently interviewed Jane BAILEY, who confessed that she asked SMALL to kill her husband, and that she actually assisted SMALL in killing her husband.   BAILEY told Detectives she provided SMALL with the .357 handgun he used to shoot her husband to death, and then helped SMALL clean the crime scene and dispose of her husband’s body in a remote location.

BAILEY was arrested last night in Fayette County, PA, and was formally arraigned in Fayette County by Magisterial District Judge Robert Breakiron.  She is being held at Fayette County jail without bail pending transfer to Montgomery County Correctional Facility.  An arrest warrant has been issued for SMALL, who has not yet been taken into custody.

Deputy District Attorney Steven Latzer is assigned to prosecute the case.
