FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AUGUST 20, 2009
Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman and Chief Randall D. Hummel of the Springfield Township Police Department announce the arrests of Kimberly BRAY and James BRAY in connection with Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition, Theft by Deception, Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Conspiracy and other related crimes that occurred within Springfield Township, Montgomery County.
From September 2008 through May of 2009, Kimberly BRAY volunteered her services as Treasurer for the Springfield Middle School Band and Chorus Association, which is a non-profit musical organization operating at Springfield Middle School. The Middle School is located in the Springfield Township section of Montgomery County. During BRAY’S term as Treasurer, numerous unauthorized transactions were made from the Middle School Band and Chorus Association bank account.
These discrepancies were reported by school officials to Detectives from the Springfield Township Police Department, who then conducted an investigation into the matter. At the conclusion of the investigation, Detectives determined that between October of 2008 and April of 2009, BRAY issued 14 checks totaling $14,520.00 payable to herself and/or her husband James BRAY. The checks were deposited into the BRAYS’ personal bank account. The investigation determined that the BRAYS made numerous unauthorized purchases unrelated to Springfield Middle School Band and Chorus Association, including Dance lessons and orthodontic fees.
On August 20, 2009, Magisterial District Judge Gloria Inlander arraigned the BRAYS and set bail in the amount of $5,000. A preliminary hearing on this matter is currently scheduled for September 2, 2009 at 9 am before Magisterial District Judge Elaine Berkoff.
Assistant District Attorney Rebecca W. Strubel is assigned to prosecute the case.
