OPERATION CLEAN SWEEP TARGETS THOSE SCATTERING RUBBISH
Bruce Merriwether Elliot Wade Liverman
Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman and Pottstown Police Chief Mark D. Flanders announce the convictions of Elliot Wade Liverman and Bruce Merriwether for Scattering Rubbish in the Borough of Pottstown. These convictions are the fruits of Operation Clean Sweep, announced by District Attorney Ferman in September 2008. Operation Clean Sweep is an initiative designed to reduce crime and improve the quality of life in the Borough by eliminating neighborhood blight and deterioration.
On Sept 24, 2008, the Pottstown Police Department was advised of illegal dumping that occurred on a vacant lot on South Washington Street in Pottstown. The illegal dumping was traced to a trash removal business called “U Got It We Haul It,” owned by Elliot Wade Liverman. Further investigation revealed that Liverman and Merriwether illegally dumped twenty large trash bags of construction debris from a home remodel in the Borough. In a separate incident, law enforcement observed Liverman throwing debris on Keystone Blvd.
On May 29, 2009, Liverman plead guilty to scattering rubbish in the Borough of Pottstown and was sentenced to two years probation. As the owner of the trash removal business, Liverman was ordered to pay a fine of $500 and must complete 150 hours of community service exclusively in the Borough of Pottstown. Additionally, Liverman was ordered to pay $427.37 to the Borough as restitution for the expenses the Borough incurred in hauling away the trash and debris illegally dumped on South Washington Street. In a separate plea that was previously entered on January 16, 2009, Merriwether plead guilty to scattering rubbish, as well as other unrelated offenses, and was sentenced to two years probation.
These cases were prosecuted by Special Assistant District Attorney Therol Johnson Dix.
