Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman announces that on August 5th through August 12th, 2008, she held the  Fifth Annual Summer Intern Trial Competition. Twelve law students competed in this year’s competition. The competitors were certified legal interns from this summer’s class of 40 volunteers. The 12 competitors in this summer’s competition are approved and certified under Pa. B.A.R. 321 and 322 by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court so that they could practice law in the District Courts and Courts of Common Pleas under the supervision of the Deputy District Attorney’s in the office.

The final round of the competition took place on August 12, 2008 in Courtroom “G” of the Montgomery County Courthouse. The finalists prosecuted a man charged with murdering a car runner in an elaborate hit-man for hire conspiracy.  This hypothetical scenario was created by two staff members of the District Attorney’s Office, including legal hurdles and factual inconsistencies to create difficulty in the case. District Attorney Ferman sat as the Judge for the case and the Jury was made up of Assistant District Attorneys and office staff. This year’s winners were Matthew Quigg and Alec O’Neill. Both Matt and Alec are entering their third year at the Temple University’s School of Law.
