District Attorney Ferman co-founded the Montgomery Child Advocacy Project (“MCAP”) with former Montgomery County prosecutor and current Court of Common Pleas Judge Wendy Demchick-Alloy. MCAP is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation which operates with the support of the Montgomery Bar Foundation. MCAP provides pro-bono Child Advocate Attorneys to represent and protect children’s interests in court proceedings.
Specifically, MCAP was formed in 2006 to provide free legal representation to children who are the victims of abuse and neglect. There are over one hundred and twenty (120) MCAP attorneys who volunteer their time and resources to represent the innocent young victims in the legal arena. MCAP attorneys protect their interests as they navigate the court systems. As of May 2008, MCAP has cumulatively represented 795 abused or neglected children and helped them to recover from their painful experiences.
MCAP receives referrals for child abuse cases from the Judges and Courts of Montgomery County, the District Attorney’s Office, the Public Defender’s Office, Office of Children and Youth, Police Departments, hospitals and private social agencies.
