Upper Dublin Township was established in 1701. Almost ninety percent of the township lies in the Wissahickon Valley Watershed, and many streams and creeks provided power for early mills. The early development of transportation routes such as Bethlehem, Butler, and Limekiln Pikes made the township accessible. By the early 1880s, Fort Washington was already beginning to stand out as a center for business activity. The years following World War II saw a steady stream of new development. Today, the Fort Washington Office Complex and the Prudential Office Campus are two of the largest complexes in the county. Upper Dublin will continue to see modest development activities in the years ahead. Major communities within the township include Dresher, Fort Washington, Jarretown, and Maple Glen. In addition, some residents and businesses in the township may have an Ambler mailing address.
