Trappe Borough was incorporated on September 21, 1896, and took its area solely from Upper Providence Township. Although Trappe has been densely settled and contains more agricultural land than any other borough in the county, only one active farm remains. There are many small businesses along the main street of the borough along with many old historic landmarks which have been nicely preserved. One large townhouse development in the borough has been the primary factor in the rise in both population and housing units between 1980 and 1990. Some residential development is planned for the future. Residents and businesses in the borough sometimes use Collegeville for their mailing address.
PUBLIC SERVICES: Currently the northern half of the borough has no public water or sewer facilities. Police protection is provided by the Pennsylvania State Police. Fire protection is provided by volunteer companies. Residential trash disposal is arranged by private contractors.
RECREATION: Facilities include one park area. Little League programs are run by a private organization. For more information on what is available, please contact the borough at 610-489-7181.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: A SEPTA bus route runs along the main street of the borough. This route allows access to Pottstown and Norristown, and various points in between.
SHOPPING: Small businesses are located in the borough and along the main street along with a community shopping center. The nearest major shopping mall is the Court and Plaza at King of Prussia. |
