Souderton Borough was incorporated on December 15, 1887. Its original acreage was taken from Franconia Township. Additional annexations to this small borough, one in 1915 and one in 1917, brought the total area to 1.25 square miles. Souderton’s businesses, industries and stores developed over the years, as the residential population grew. Today, this small community finds itself with almost no vacant land left for development. It should be noted that the Borough of Souderton is considered the heart of the Indian Valley, a term used to describe Souderton and the surrounding area. Moreover, some residents and businesses may have a Souderton mailing address, but actually be located in Franconia Township. PUBLIC SERVICES: The entire borough is serviced by public water and sewer facilities. A full-time police force serves the residents. Fire protection is provided by volunteer companies. Residential trash disposal is arranged by private contractors. RECREATION: A volunteer Recreation Board helps to organize activities. Facilities include two parks, tennis and basketball facilities, a fitness trail, a public swimming pool, and more. Little League programs are run by private organizations. These routes can be used to access the Norristown Transportation Center. SHOPPING: Main street shopping and small businesses serve the area. The nearest major shopping mall is the Montgomery Mall.
