Schwenksville Borough was incorporated on April 6, 1903, taking its original acreage from Perkiomen Township. Additional land from Lower Frederick was annexed to the borough in 1972 bringing the total acreage to 343.4. The railroad reached the borough by 1869, and for a time, this small community was a summer resort on the Perkiomen Creek. The population of the borough grew after World War II. Later on, small apartments would provide housing for local people. Schwenksville has little land remaining for development and remains a small quaint residential community. It should be noted that while some homes and businesses may have a Schwenksville mailing address, their actual location may be in the surrounding Townships of Perkiomen, Skippack, Lower Frederick and Upper Salford.
