Plymouth Township is one of the oldest townships in Montgomery County, dating back to 1686. The earliest village, Plymouth Meeting, was the home of the Plymouth Friends Meeting House which still stands today as a symbol of the township’s history. The network of transportation routes helped in the establishment of lime kilns and quarries. Today, as in days past, the township’s location has attracted business and industry. With the completion of the Mid-County Expressway (Blue Route), which connects the Philadelphia International Airport and Route I-95 with the greater Plymouth Meeting/Norristown area, the township is expected to see additional office and commercial development. It is possible for residents and businesses in the township to have a Norristown, Conshohocken, or even a Blue Bell mailing address.
PUBLIC SERVICES: Almost the entire township has access to public water and sewer facilities. A full-time police force serves the township. Fire protection is provided by volunteer companies. Residential trash disposal is provided by the township.
RECREATION: A full-time recreation director is employed by the township. Facilities include East Plymouth Valley Park, which has areas for many different activities. Additional facilities include summer playgrounds and open areas. Little League programs are run by private organizations. For more information on what is available, please call 610-277-4100.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: Several SEPTA bus routes and a rail line connect different portions of the township with nearby Norristown and portions of Philadelphia.
SHOPPING: Specialty and community shopping centers are located throughout the township. The nearest major shopping mall is the Plymouth Meeting Mall located in the heart of the township. |
