In 1725, "Skippack and Perkioming" Township was officially established. The large township contained 11,440 acres of rich and bountiful land. The Perkiomen Creek flowed through this area and supplied water power for mills and farms. In 1886, this large township was split along the natural boundary of the Perkiomen Creek. On the west bank of the creek was 3,600 acres which was established as Perkiomen Township. Today, the township is experiencing development as available land is subdivided. Communities within the township include Rahns and Gratersford. Most residents of this township will have a mailing address of Collegeville or Schwenksville.
PUBLIC SERVICES: The central portion of the township has access to public sewer facilities. Future development will see almost two-thirds of the township having access to public sewer facilities. The central portion of the township and the village of Rahns have public water service. Police protection is provided by the Pennsylvania State Police. Fire protection is provided by volunteer companies. Residential trash disposal is arranged by private contractors.
RECREATION: Facilities include a local park that has a small playground and a pavilion. Little League programs are run by the Skip-Perk Jay-Cees. For more information on what is available, please call 610-489-4034.
