Pennsburg Borough was incorporated on November 19, 1887. Its eight and one-half tenths of a square mile were taken exclusively from Upper Hanover Township. The railroad was responsible in the early days of the borough for tying it and many of its products to surrounding areas such as Philadelphia. These early industries included cigar making, brickyards and silk mills. Today, the borough retains its small town flavor and its original housing stock stays in good repair. It should be noted that the three contiguous Boroughs of East Greenville, Pennsburg and Red Hill are very similar in their makeup and historical backgrounds. To many, these three small communities are the gateway to some of the rural areas of Berks and Lehigh Counties. Some Pennsburg mailing addresses may actually be located in surrounding New Hanover Township.
PUBLIC SERVICES:
The entire borough is serviced by public water and sewer facilities. Full-time police protection is provided by the Upper Perkiomen Police District which serves the contiguous Boroughs of East Greenville and Pennsburg. Fire protection is provided by volunteer companies. Residential trash disposal is provided by the borough through contracted haulers. $1.00 per bag system.
RECREATION:
Facilities include a small local park, and nearby school district facilities. Little League programs are run by a private organization. Two very large county parks are very close. For more information on what is available, please call 215-679-4546.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
No SEPTA bus or rail lines serve the borough.
SHOPPING:
A small community shopping center is located within the borough. In addition, the main street shopping areas of East Greenville, Red Hill, and Pennsburg are easily accessible. The nearest major shopping area is Quakertown in Bucks County.
