Narberth Borough was incorporated on January 21, 1895. The location that is now Narberth and surrounding areas of what is now Lower Merion Township was once a bountiful area with natural springs that attracted native Indians and Swedish settlers. As the decades passed, more people of various ethnic backgrounds started to settle in the Narberth area. This led to the increase in small businesses and residents. By the early 1900s there were signs of growth. Today, this small quaint community is considered a passage or gateway to Lower Merion Township and the greater City Line Avenue and Main Line areas. The neighborhood style that became characteristic of Narberth in the 1920s exists to the present day. It should be noted that many businesses and residents will have a Narberth mailing address, but will actually be located in surrounding Lower Merion Township.
