Marlborough Township was established in 1741 when Salford Township was divided into the present-day Townships of Marlborough, Lower, and Upper Salford. Farming and small trades such as powder mills and clock making were the predominant means of employment before World War II. Like many of its neighboring municipalities, real population increases have taken place in the past twenty years. Today, even in light of some recent residential developments, the township retains its rural character. Small communities within the township include the village of Sumneytown. Also, those located in the lower portion of the township may have a Green Lane mailing address.
PUBLIC SERVICES: Areas surrounding Green Lane Borough have access to public water and sewer facilities. A full-time police force serves the township. Fire protection is provided by volunteer companies. Residential trash disposal is arranged by private contractors.
RECREATION: Facilities include one park, a small playground area, a private soccer field and a pavilion and picnic area. Little League programs are run by private organizations. For more information on what is available, please call 215-234-9300.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: No SEPTA bus or rail lines serve the township.
SHOPPING: No significant community type shopping facilities are located in the township. The nearest major shopping mall is in Quakertown, Bucks County or the Montgomery Mall (Montgomery Township). |
