The Township of Lower Frederick was created on November 20, 1919, when the Township of Frederick was divided into two separate municipalities. The creation of Upper and Lower Frederick was the last municipal incorporation in Montgomery County. Settled primarily by people of Pennsylvania Dutch descent, the township has been historically agricultural and retains its rural and Pennsylvania Dutch characteristics. Today, some residential development is slowly adding to the township’s population. Small communities within the township include Spring Mount and Zieglerville. The neighboring Borough of Schwenksville will serve as the mailing address for some residents and businesses of the township.
PUBLIC SERVICES: The Spring Mount section of the township is serviced by public water and sewer facilities. Sewer service has been extended to Zieglerville. The Pennsylvania State Police provides police protection for the township. Fire protection is provided by volunteer companies. Residential trash disposal is arranged by private contractors.
RECREATION: An expansion of an existing township park has added a pavilion, basketball courts, jogging area and major playground. Little League programs are run by private organizations. For more information on what is available, please call 610-287-8857.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: No SEPTA bus or rail lines serve the township.
SHOPPING: Small shops and businesses can be found in neighboring Schwenksville Borough. Basic grocery shopping can be done in other neighboring municipalities. The nearest major shopping malls are the Coventry Mall in Chester County and the Montgomery Mall.
