East Norriton Township was incorporated on March 9, 1909. The township experienced substantial development over the past decades. Once a farming community in the 1920s and 1930s, today, East Norriton combines stores, offices, professional buildings, a small industrial area, and a sizable institutional area. In addition, East Norriton offers a variety of housing from single family homes to modern apartment buildings. In terms of mailing addresses, Norristown covers a good portion of East & West Norriton Townships.
PUBLIC SERVICES:
Almost the entire township is serviced by public water and sewer facilities. A full-time police force serves the township. Fire protection is provided by volunteer companies. Residential trash disposal is arranged by private contractors.
RECREATION:
The township employs a full-time recreation director. Facilities include four public parks, a number of playgrounds and a nature preserve. Little League programs are cosponsored by the township and private organizations. For more information on what is available, please call 610-275-2800.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
SEPTA bus routes connect the township with Norristown Borough and Central Montgomery County as well as other routes that travel to Philadelphia.
SHOPPING:
The township contains several specialty and neighborhood shopping centers and businesses. The nearest major shopping mall is the Plymouth Meeting Mall.
