On May 15th, 1850, Conshohocken became the third incorporated borough in the county, after Norristown and Pottstown. The land for this new borough was taken in equal amounts from Plymouth and Whitemarsh Townships. The borough developed into a large industrial and manufacturing center shortly after its incorporation. Today, however, the borough has experienced a major redevelopment with large office towers and riverfront development. Conshohocken, along with its neighbor West Conshohocken will continue to provide new job opportunities for area residents. It should be noted that some Conshohocken addresses may actually be located in Plymouth or Whitemarsh Townships.
PUBLIC SERVICES:
The majority of the borough is serviced by public water and sewage treatment facilities. A full-time police force serves the borough. Fire protection is provided by volunteer companies. Residential trash disposal is provided by the borough.
RECREATION:
Borough facilities include six athletic fields, ten basketball courts, five parks and playgrounds. Little League programs are run by independent organizations. In addition, the Fellowship House, a United Way organization, provides programs for area residents. For more information on what is available, please call 610-828-1092.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
SEPTA bus and rail lines provide easy access to the general Norristown area, King of Prussia, and Philadelphia County.
SHOPPING:
Planned redevelopment will result in an increase in the borough’s shopping and retail facilities. Community style shopping centers and stores are available in nearby municipalities. The nearest major shopping malls are the Plymouth Meeting Mall and the Court and Plaza at King of Prussia. |
