Bryn Athyn was formed from what was then Moreland Township on February 8, 1916. During this time, strong religious beliefs helped to push for the creation of an independent borough. The borough’s two square miles include a large amount of open space and woodlands. Three of its largest institutions, the Academy of the New Church, the Bryn Athyn Church School, and the New Church College, occupy more of its real estate than do its residents. The Bryn Athyn Cathedral is a beautiful example of the fine architecture that is found in the borough. Some Bryn Athyn addresses may actually be located in Upper or Lower Moreland Township.
PUBLIC SERVICES: A private sewage facility serves the office park in the borough. Public water facilities serve the southern portion of the borough. A full-time police force serves the community. Fire protection is provided by volunteer companies. Residential trash disposal is provided by the borough.
RECREATION: Facilities include one small park, the Glencairn Museum, and a private swimming pool. For more information on Little League programs and other activities, please call 215-947-9889.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: No SEPTA bus or rail lines service the borough. However, in nearby Willow Grove, bus and rail service may be accessed. In addition, the nearby community of Bethayres has access to rail service.
SHOPPING: Some small shops and businesses are located in the borough. The nearest major shopping malls are the Willow Grove Park Mall and the Neshaminy Mall in Lower Bucks County. |
