Ambler Borough was incorporated on June 16, 1888. The creation of Ambler removed almost one square mile from neighboring Upper Dublin Township. The small settlement known as Gilkey’s corner, located at the crossroads of Butler and Bethlehem Pikes, can be considered the origins of modern day Ambler. With excellent access to public transportation, and the personal touch of a small town, this quiet little borough is an attractive community to many. It should be noted that while some homes and businesses may have an Ambler mailing address, their actual location may be any of the following townships: Upper Dublin, Lower Gwynedd, Whitpain or Whitemarsh.
PUBLIC SERVICES: The entire borough is serviced by public water and sewer facilities. A full-time police force serves borough residents. Fire protection is provided by volunteer fire companies. Residential trash disposal is provided by private haulers who are contracted by the borough.
RECREATION: Facilities include four small parks/playgrounds and one small park. Little League programs are run by a private organization. For more information on what is available, please call 215-646-1000.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: Both SEPTA bus and rail lines travel through Ambler, making access to Philadelphia and major suburban communities convenient.
SHOPPING: A main street shopping district highlights the downtown. Three major shopping malls are within easy access of the borough. These are the Montgomery Mall, Plymouth Meeting Mall, and the Willow Grove Park Mall. |
