This section issues a "license to carry firearm" to those residents of Montgomery County who are 21 years of age or older and show cause to carry a firearm concealed on or about one's person or in a vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Applications can be picked up at the Sheriff's Office, or Local Police Department if available and can also be downloaded below. Information on applying is also below:

ITEMS TO TAKE WITH YOU TO THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT WHEN APPLYING FOR A GUN PERMIT
Pennsylvania Drivers License or a Pennsylvania Photo I.D. Card with your current Montgomery County address.
Applicant must provide for the application the names, addresses and telephone numbers of two references that are not of immediate family.
The Local Police check card must be signed by your local Police Department. This applies to new applicants only. The Local Police check card is only valid for 60 days from date of signature by Police Department.
$20.00 cash, check, or money order made payable to Sheriff of Montgomery County. (WE DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS).
Foreign-born applicants who are U.S. Citizens must provide a valid Passport or Naturalization Paper.
Foreign-born applicants who are not U.S. Citizens must provide proof of their immigration status and three consecutive months of utility bills.
Note: Applicants with expired permits more than 60 days old will be considered new applicants
ALL APPLICANTS WILL HAVE A BACKGROUND CHECK RUN THROUGH THE PENNSYLVANIA INSTANT CHECK SYSTEM
Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 4:15pm for picking up applications.
Processing hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 3:30pm.
Applications cannot be processed unless all of the above requirements are met.
